THE WORLD’S LARGEST NETWORK OF QUALITY ASSURANCE ORGANIZATIONS INQAHEE REPORTS ON TWAEA’S INTERNATIONALIZATION EFFORTS

In its March 2019 newsletter, the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE) reported on the “Taiwan-Japan International Joint Accreditation Project” and “Interagency staff exchange among Taiwan, Japan, and Thailand”, both co-organized by the Taiwan Assessment and Evaluation Association (TWAEA).

Established in 1991 with only 8 members, the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE) is a world-wide association of organizations that is active in the theory and practice of quality assurance in higher education. Today the total membership exceeds 300 members, including member organizations from developed countries and territories in North America, Europe, and Asia. INQAHEE provides its members with a platform to promote and advance excellence in higher education through the support of an active international community of quality assurance agencies.

Commenced in 2018, joint-accreditation will be available to higher education institutions in Taiwan and Japan, and is aimed at promoting internationalization and institutional development. Two HEIs in Taiwan and Japan respectively have commenced the join-accreditation process and are scheduled to undergo on-site evaluations conducted by TWAEA and JUAA this February and April.

In addition, the newsletter also reports on the interagency staff exchange between TWAEA, JUAA, and the Thai Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment (ONESQA). Commencing in 2017, the third round of international interagency staff-exchanges was hosted by ONESQA in Thailand in February 2019. This year's theme for staff exchanges is "Preparedness of EQA Agency in a Disruptive World." In addition to attending the staff exchange, TWAEA personnel visited the Thai Office of Higher Education Commission (OHEC) and Srinakharinwirot University.

INQAAHE’s recognition of international joint-accreditation and interagency staff exchanges implemented by TWAEA enables HEIs to enhance their internationalization, and demonstrates that the quality assurance and internationalization efforts of higher education in Taiwan are in line with global trends.
