On 22nd of Oct., 2018, “Accreditation Award Ceremony & Promotion on Taiwan’s Higher Education Cross-border Development Forum” was held by Taiwan Assessment and Evaluation Association (TWAEA) in order to motivate the global talent movement for the enhancement of our international visibility and competitiveness.
The ceremony was started with Chairman Fu’s lecture on "Promoting the Cross-border Development of Taiwan’s Higher Education - International Joint Accreditation". In order to cope with the dilemmas of low birth rate and the excessive number of colleges and universities, obtaining "international accreditation" and " cooperation with Asian evaluation agencies" can be seen as effective strategic approaches. Therefore, in order to appropriately play the role as a bridge, TWAEA has actively participated in international evaluation organizations in recent years; after obtaining membership, it has signed with quality assurance associations in Thailand, Japan, Russia, New Zealand, and Mainland China to establish the "International Joint Accreditation". In addition, the evaluation service is also taken abroad for the implementation of overseas assessment, it is hoped that with the promotion of these plans that Taiwan's higher education quality assurance system will be promoted internationally; in the meanwhile, it can also benefit our colleges and universities’ internationalization.
“Accreditation of Degree-granting Programs Project” was initiated by TWAEA to assist the universities and colleges to establish quality improvement mechanisms and strengthen their advantages and characteristics. This year, a total of 3 institutions and 9 departments (institutes) have passed accreditation through expert consultation, document review, improvement adjustment, and on-site visit. The accredited departments/institutes are "Continuing Education Bachelor's Program of Interior Design" from Feng Chia University; "Department of Social Science" from National Open University; "Department/Graduate Institute of Nursing", "Department/Graduate Institute of Gerontology and Health Care Management” and " Department of Respiratory Care", "Department of Child Care and Education", "Department of Cosmetic Science", "Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences", and "Graduate Institute of Health Industry Technology" from Chang Gung University of Science and Technology.
“Accreditation of Degree-granting Programs Project” is evaluated by the development of self-characteristics, mainly focused on the potential for sustainable improvement. Through the implementation of accreditation, the institution can be affirmed with its own positioning and characteristics, to respond to the changing challenges. During the ceremony, three accredited institutions were invited to share their experiences in accreditation preparation and being accredited, clearly explained the benefits and advantages after being accredited.
Looking to the future, TWAEA will continue to assist institutions to improve teaching quality and provide assessment and accreditation services to better meet the needs of the institutions’ actual situations. Once the self-improvement mechanism is developed, the institution can follow the procedures step by step to reach the result of being sustainable operated.
